March 6, 2007
NABET-CWA and ABC, Inc. negotiators resumed talks today at 9:30 A.M, with the Union beginning its initial run through of contract proposals.
The NABET-CWA Network Negotiating Committee began the session calling for a 10.5 % general wage increase commencing in April, 2007. "This issue is very important to us", said NABET-CWA Sector President John S. Clark, the Union's chief spokesperson in these talks. Clark further emphasized that, "Our ABC members have fallen nearly 5.5% behind their brothers and sisters at NBC and we are seeking parity plus here!"
The rest of the morning was spent explaining the Union's proposals on General Article provisions of the contract. These proposals include expanding Union jurisdiction and membership, increasing meal allowance payments, increasing short turnaround compensation, improving scheduling requirements, improving and expanding night shift differential corridors. The Union also proposed increasing the maximum duration of medical leaves of absence.
In the afternoon session, the Union presented initial proposals concerning disciplinary suspensions, travel time, holidays, vacation, and the grievance and arbitration process. The Union's proposals can be viewed at www.abc-contract.info.
Talks adjourned for the evening at 5:15 P.M. The parties are scheduled to re-convene at 10 A.M tomorrow when discussions will be held regarding the NABET-CWA/ABC Retirement Trust. In the afternoon session, Daily Hire proposals are scheduled to be discussed.
The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered via Sector and Local websites, as well as via hotlines and e-mail lists.
