BULLETIN 19

May 22, 2007

The parties resumed bargaining today at 10:30 A.M.  After reviewing yesterday's proposal exchange, the Union started the morning session by informing the Company that there were a number of items on which the parties had reached agreement. These agreements include Section 3.1 (b) [union security clause], Section 4.4 [dues check-off], Section 19.1 (c) [payment in lieu of sixth and seventh weeks of vacation], Section 20.6 [removal of arbitrators], Sideletter CC [temporary maintenance assignments], Sideletter DJ  [Washington and New York producer fees], Sideletter ES [ KABC-TV  "P" Unit employees], Sideletter FF [personal services agreements], and Sideletter FZ [Network "P" Unit employees].

Immediately afterward, and with a contingent of NABET-CWA Local 41 members present as observers, the parties engaged in an intense discussion concerning the overall impact of the Company's proposals on layoffs without regard to seniority, and elimination of jurisdiction. The discussion also turned to the Company's failure to recognize the necessity to provide the Union with guarantees of work in emerging business operations, and guarantees of work for existing traditional job functions currently staffed by non NABET-CWA-represented employees.

At one point deep into the discussions, one Company representative finally appeared to make the connection between the Union's willingness to consider certain flexibilities in work rules only in conjunction with a grant of additional work opportunities for our members.  Sector President and Chief Spokesperson John S. Clark responded, "Eureka! Someone on your side is finally listening!"

The Company committee did not return for a scheduled afternoon session, and remained in caucus for the rest of the day. Bargaining is scheduled to resume at 9:15 A.M. on Wednesday, May 23rd.

The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website at www.abc-contract.info.  Please also check Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail for additional information.
