BULLETIN 22
May 25, 2007
Talks resumed today at 9:00 A.M. The Network Negotiating Committee spent the majority of the session engaging Company representatives in discussions about the totality of ABC's current proposals, and the negative impact NABET-CWA members would bear if these proposals were enacted.
The Union Bargaining Committee continued to point to ABC proposals which include:
- Changing the work day and overtime eligibility, resulting in less pay.
- Transferring work, increasing subcontracting rights, and removing jurisdiction, all resulting in decreased employment opportunities.
- Proposing a mere 2% wage increase, resulting in a failure to meet actual living cost increases.
- Freezing the pension plan, resulting in reduced retirement security.
- Removing significant scheduling rules, resulting in less control over one's life.
- Expanding the application of "Opportunities to Eat", resulting in increased circumstances in which no meal period need be provided.
- Gutting the seniority system, resulting in decreased job security.
In addition to these discussions, the Union submitted a counterproposal on Section 10.3, and withdrew proposals on Sections 2.1, 5.1, and 7.1. The parties also reached agreement on Sections 8.2 and 20.11.
Talks adjourned for the Memorial Day weekend after the morning session. The Union Bargaining Committee will remain in Chicago working throughout the weekend. Negotiations are scheduled to resume at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, May 29th.
The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website at www.abc-contract.info. Please also check Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail for additional information.
