BULLETIN 33
August 25, 2007
Today's session began at 10:45am CDT, with the Union announcing acceptance of three additional items.
Discussions then turned to the Comprehensive Package Proposal presented to the Union yesterday, which cast a dark shadow over this round of bargaining.
During an hour long and tension-filled exchange, Union negotiators criticized the Company for the overall volume of the package and the disturbing number of destructive proposals still remaining at this point in the bargaining process. Sector President John S. Clark admonished the Company for ignoring the Union's primary theme; expanding work opportunities for our members in exchange for flexibility in work rules. "In the right kind of deal, almost anything is possible." stated Clark. Citing two Company proposals designed to offer some new work opportunities, Company Chief Spokesperson, Jeffrey Ruthizer defiantly responded, "Other than these, we've rejected your proposals for more work."
Following a brief caucus, the discussion then focused on issues related to Sideletters DV and GD. Richard L. Gelber, a Local 16 member and ABC TD, joined the Union Bargaining Committee and engaged in a comprehensive and insightful examination of the Company's regressive proposal on Sideletter DV.
With mutual recognition of positive dialogue and improved operating practices related to 'Network Distribution', the parties agreed to continue working under the terms and conditions of Sideletter GD into the future, without the need for changes.
Also during today's session the Company withdrew their proposal on new Sideletter 18 (Summer Vacation Selection – WABC-TV Field Crews).
The parties recessed for the day at 1:30pm with the Union Committee working in private caucus for the remainder of the day. The Subcommittee on Sick Leave met later Saturday afternoon.
